26 week adventure in the heart of China living in a village setting.

Work with artists from around the world and learn from local craftsmen and masters.

Sanbao Ceramic Art Institute is pleased to offer an international fellowship residency. It will foster both cultural exchange and be a major step in professional development. Fellowship residents will have access to the same facilities, accommodation and activities as the regular residents. Tuition will be waived for fellowship recipients in exchange for a work period of 30 hours per week.

Deposits

A Fellowship Deposit, of 1350Yuan,(approximately $200.00USD) is required to ensure the successful recipients complete their proposed term at Sanbao. The Fellowship Deposit will be returned at the end of a successful fellowship.

Program Detail

The fellowship is eligible to all interested persons 21 years and over, with previous college and/or studio experience and a solid working knowledge of ceramics. Fellowship residents must be competent and motivated individuals, willing to work with people and flexible enough to deal with situations which arise in a group studio, and ready to take charge of maintenance needs and projects.

Skills & Requirements

Loading and firing gas kilns

Basic ceramics techniques of throwing and hand-building

Maintenance and organization of group ceramics studio

Technical support of workshops for artists

Demonstrating ceramic techniques to small groups


Opportunities

Participate in workshops and demonstrations and develop your own work

Exhibition opportunity at Sanbao and workshop teaching experience

3 medium-sized gas kilns

Study the unique porcelain techniques only found in Jingdezhen

Work alongside international and Chinese artists


Responsibilities

Support the artist residency program under the management of the Director

Organize artist spaces and assist artists technically

Assist in the physical maintenance of studios and kilns

30 hours of support required per week

Minimum 6 months commitment to the program
