Itinerary

 

 

Day Activity

15 May

Arrive in Shanghai, visit local areas in evening, acclimate to time difference and culture.

16 May

Fly to Kunming, Yunnan  Province, Stay in hotel in Kunming.

17 May

Private bus to ancient city of Dali, stay in old part of town.

18 May

Visit Islamic village outsidde of Dali.  Private bus to Wenshang and surrounding village  engaged in tie-dye fabrics.  Visit Taoist temples in the mountains surrounding Dali and local markets.

19 May

Bus to Lijiang, northern Yunnan Province, an ancient Ming town with a large population of Naxi peoples. Stay in old part of town.

20 May

Day trip of old villages in surrounding area.  Touring of  Lijiang in evening.  Attend traditional Naxi music concert at night.

21 May

Bus back to Dali along the old route stopping at traditional pottery village and wood carving factory.

22 May

Early morning bus to Kumming, flight to Nanchang. Bus to Jingdezhen
23 May to 3 June  Program in Jingdezhen May 23 - June 3 (12 days)
  1. Residency and workshops at Sanbao Ceramic Working Village.
  2. Walking tours of water powered hammer mills, producing porcelain
  3. Demos in Sanbao of calligraphy and ink painting.
  4. Demos in Jingdezhen of throwing, trimming and assembling large vases.
  5. Jingdezhen master Artists studio tour and porcelain markets
  6. Day tour of Tianbao folk pottery (150 foot-long dragon kiln) and Yaoli historical village
  7. Majors from other disciplines may elect to develop a personalized program with the director during this residency at Jingdezhen.
  8. Ming town site in mountains.  Exchange with Jingdezhen Ceramic Institute students.

4 June

Overnight train to Shanghai. Stay in downtown Hotel. See the night skyline of Pudong along the Bund.  Tour Yu Yuan Garden area of Old Shanghai.

5 June

Free day in Shanghai, Shanghai Museum and farewell banquet.

6 June

return international flight from Shanghai.
 

Expenses:

 Student cost:  TBA

Non-Student cost  is $2800US

Included: all domestic travel, accommodation and meals, bilingual guides, museum fees, workshop fees and studio materials.

  Not included: international roundtrip airfare to Shanghai, visa, medical travel insurance (nominal fee) and credit fees.
