Frequently Asked Questions-Workshop and Demo Frequency

My experience during two visits to Sanbao lead me to say that the number of demos works out to an average of about 1 per week in Sanbao.   Often there is a group of Chinese artists who arrive at the same time and demos are carried out all day. Demos also take place during visits to ceramic factories and Chinese artist studios which take place about once a week.  The Jingdezhen Ceramic Art Institute, (University level) often host international artists where slide shows and demos take place.  Then there are the Friday night presentations at the Experimental Pottery Workshop in the city of Jingdezhen.  This is another residency organization that invites selected artists to give a slide presentation and discussion.  You might be invited to show your slides here so be sure to have a package ready.

Hands on workshops are an individual choice.  We often would get a group of three or four residents and find and Chinese artist who speaks English to give workshops.  I personally enjoyed hands on workshop with an artist Gandau Fu.  He does the most beautiful large-scale tile blue and white abstracts.   One can organize a workshop with someone who paints overgraze enamels.  Once you are in the area you can discuss your wishes with Wendy and she could help you find what you need. The cost of workshops is not expensive.  When I return in the fall of 08 I will concentrate on surface painting with blue and white.  I will purchase my pieces already made in the green ware state.
