Ceramic Art Institute at Jingdezhen Printmaking Exhibition, Symposium and Tour 2009 |
| 2nd China Sanbao International Printmaking Exhibition, Symposium, Workshop and Tour mid-May to mid-June 2009 The 2009 China Sanbao International Printmaking Exhibition, Symposium, Workshop and Tour will offer significant opportunities for artists to explore and work in China. The month long visit is organized by the China Sanbao Ceramic Art Institute at Jingdezhen, the premier international ceramic artist residency in China. Founded in 2000 by Jiansheng Li, Sanbao introduces artists to the classical porcelain of Jingdezhen and the thousand year history of Chinese Imperial-ware. Other hosts will be the Printmaking Dept, China Academy of Fine Art; Jingdezhen Ceramic Institute; Jingdezhen Cultural Bureau; China Printmaking Association and the Shanxi University School of Fine Arts. Exhibition An international print exhibition, curated by Minna Resnick, will open in Jingdezhen and travel to other venues in China. A color catalogue will be published. Symposium A symposium of international and Chinese printmakers will include a 15 minute presentation of each artist’s work. Any artist who wishes to participate in the symposium will receive an official letter of invitation to the symposium to enable them to request funding for travel. Workshop The group will participate in an intensive week workshop at Sanbao Ceramic Art Institute in Jingdezhen. The Sanbao program is intended to provide an atmosphere where Western and Eastern traditions can meet and be a starting point where normal boundaries are erased. Artists are encouraged to make use of other skills not common to them, to work in a space outside of their own environment and culture. Sanbao is providing a unique opportunity for artists to explore new methods and directions. Artists will send images to the workshop to be made into traditional cobalt transfer decals that can be used in conjunction with local ceramic ware, thus extending their ideas from printmaking to ceramics, and blending and reinventing contemporary Western imagery with traditional Chinese materials. | |||
