Jackson Li, president of Jingdezhen Sanbao Ceramic Art Institute of China, wishes everyone a very happy New Year and desires to pass on this very important message to all IAC members.

2008 will be a banner year for Jingdezhen Sanbao Ceramic Art Institute activities.  One of the major projects being planned by Jackson and his Sanbao team is the creation and installation of The Sanbao Ceramic International Park.  Selected international ceramic artists will be invited, as a guest of Sanbao, to participate in the Jingdezhen International Ceramic Expo and to create large-scale outdoor work that will be installed in the park during the fall of 2008. 

IAC members attending the IAC General Assembly in Xian, China in 2008, should take note that the Sanbao Ceramic Art Institute is the only ceramic organization offering IAC members’ tours to Tibet, before and after the conference.

Jackson and the Sanbao team is inviting IAC members who undertake the pre and post Northern China Tours and the pre and post Tibet tours to come to Sanbao as his guest, for a two-week residency.   This will give the IAC members the opportunity to create ceramic pieces for either the outdoor park installation or for the 2008 Jingdezhen International Ceramic Expo and workshops, that will take place on 10 to 25 October 2008.

Members who wish to participate in the pre and post tour activities as a guest of Sanbao should indicate pre conference or post conference preference when you register for the tour of your choice.

Artists who wish to indicate their willingness to work on the Sanbao Ceramic International Park Project should also forward their coordinates, travel itineraries and proposals to Jackson at Sanbaostudio@hotmail.com.  Letters of invitation will be sent to successful proposals.

More information about the Sanbao Ceramic International Park Project will be posted on the Sanbao website throughout the year.  If you have any questions feel free to email them to Sanbaostudio@hotmail.com. 

In addition to his management of Jingdezhen Sanbao Ceramic Art Institute and its residency program since 2000, Jackson has successfully hosted numerous art cultural activities such as the special events in Jingdezhen in 2004 for IAC members attending the Jingdezhen 1000 Years Celebration of Porcelain, the 2007 Irish Artists in China tour and the 2007 China Sanbao International Printmaking Exhibition. He was also the curator for the City of Jingdezhen International Contemporary Ceramic Art Exhibition held during the 2007 Jingdezhen Ceramic Expo.

One project that saw a very successful completion was the opening of Jackson’s, “Concept of Imperial Porcelain” Exhibition, held at the Palace Museum in Beijing. The Palace Museum show that opened in December 2007 was the accumulation of a years effort on the part of Jackson and his team to produce a body of work that would be a strong reflection of the finely decorated and delicate porcelains that were at one time reserved only for emperors and their households.
