Ceramic Art Institute at Jingdezhen 2007 Holiday Message |
Sanbao International Ceramic Art Institute
Jingdezhen, PR China

Hello all;
The holiday season is coming fast upon us, and Sanbao wishes you all the very best during your joyous celebrations. We wish you a very Happy New Year!
We have had a very busy 2007 at the Sanbao Institute. And like all organizations we have looked at our operation and made some new plans for the future. At the close of activities this year we changed the administration and Logistics infrastructure of Sanbao. Jackson is passing the operation of the institute to Wendy Li and he is going off to become the Sanbao Ambassador to the world of ceramics. He will still contribute, as a board member to Sanbao’s International Ceramic activities. He will also be active during special events or as a tour leader to special groups.
With this administrative change there will also be some big changes in the residency accommodations We are planning to invest a great deal of time, effort in upgrading our residency accommodations. Some of the envisioned plans will include new furnishing and decorations to the resident rooms. New showers and toilets will be installed to make the living in residence more accommodating. We have also just finished the new construction of Korea house. This residence will have heated floors so the institute will be able to accept artists during the cooler months of the year.
We are also looking at changes to the residency studio ceramics programs. We envision lowering the costs of residency and instituting a pay-as-you-go-plan so that artists will be more directed towards their projects. We have listened to the positive and constructive comments of previous residents. We are studying them to see how we can improve the present system. We will begin by assisting residents to find their clay medium by providing them with guidance on where and how they can get the most from of their time at Sanbao. We intend to implement the new arrangement during the 2008-year. The new programs will be realized within the 2008 planed events so that the changes will be gradual and will fit within the activities of those residents presently registered. The summer school program will also be modeled to fit the needs of the participants with demonstrations and hands on workshops.
The major events being planned during 2008 are the tours that Sanbao has organized to complement the IAC conference activities. Tours are being planned for delegates to choose between pre and post conference tours. We realize that many IAC members have other duties that preclude them from touring after the conference so pre-conference tours have been planned to give them the opportunity to tour Northern China or take the Tibet tour. The same two tours are being offered to those planning to stay and visit China after the conference. We haven’t forgot our regular tour season and ambassador program. Information about these programs and tours are found at the www.chinaclayart.com website.
I also encourage ceramic artists to look towards Jingdezhen and Sanbao during the October 2008 Ceramic Expo. This event is truly and world international affair. Jackson Li and the Sanbao team worked the last three years with the Jingdezhen ceramic Expo team to organize the master’s ceramic workshop as well as the International ceramic exhibit. Maybe next year you will be able to join us to celebrate this event. Sanbao is planning some pre Expo workshops so that visiting ceramic artists can complete their work in China and be ready to show during the exhibition. More details are found at the www.chinaclayart.com.
So as you can see, we are continuously working to keep Sanbao, the International Ceramic Institute, envisioned by Jackson Li, when he first opened Sanbao’s doors. We want you to think of Sanbao as family. A warm place where you can drop in and visit any time and you will be welcome.
Once again we wish all a very happy and joyous holiday season. May you all have a very Happy New Year filled with health, prosperity and happiness. We are looking forward to hearing from you soon.
Yours truly,
Wendy Li.
