2008 Brickhouse Ceramic Art Center China Tour
10- 31 October 2008

The next
day we depart for Jin County where we will
visit a pottery that
uses the famous
dragon kiln to fire there wares. The
next day we depart for Taiping, a village
north of the famous Yellow Mountains.
We will stop along the way to visit a
traditional rice paper making village, and
yes you will be able to purchase these fine
hand made papers. The next day will be
filled with trips to a living Ming village
and a walk about the local markets looking
for treasures.
The next leg of our
voyage will be across the Yellow Mountains
to Jingdezhen the city famous for their
creations of blue and white porcelain.
We will settle in our hotel, downtown
Jingdezhen and spend some personal time
wandering about exploring the area.
The main event in Jingdezhen will be the
opening of the
2008 Jingdezhen International
Ceramic Expo, and the
Exhibition openings that follow. This
day will be topped off with an elaborate
banquet of National and International
artists hosted by
the
local dignitaries.


Our time in Jingdezhen
will allow us to enjoy the International
workshops and the studio experience at the
Sanbao Ceramic Working Village. We
will participate in workshops with
International artists attend demonstrations
and listen to lectures from the
International masters. We will visit
the famous traditional porcelain factories
and studios the dot Jingdezhen walk the
streets of the old city and hunt down
antiques and objects of great beauty.
Our stop at Jingdezhen will also allow us to
take a day trip to the
famous village of Yaoli to visit the
original porcelain kiln sites and to dine on
the Yaoli cuisine. Perhaps we will
have the time to stop, taste and purchase
the celebrated local green teas.
Our time at Jingdezhen
will end with us flying to Kunming
From Dali we
travel by private bus to Lijaing, the home
of the Naxi peoples. We will be
visiting textile and silver villages along
the way. In the Lijaing area we will
visit old temples, paper making and pottery
villages. Our travels will bring us back to
Dali, after stopping along the way to visit
pottery villages and tile-making workshops
nestled in the valley with beautiful
mountain scenery
.
Our
experience will end with a flight to
Shanghai for a rest and a superb farewell
dinner. The next day
we will visit Shanghai; one of the fastest
growing metropolises in China. Modern
Shanghai is noted for it's fine restaurants,
towering skyscrapers, scenic river views,
fabulous markets and a cultural life like no
other. We will visit the famous
Shanghai Museum and view the magnificent
collection of Chinese porcelains.
Explore Shanghai's art gallery district.
Walk the old city. The evening will
end with sumptuous Shanghai cuisine.
The following morning we will take our bus,
along with our treasures and memories, to
the Pudong Airport to catch our flights
home.
The group organizer, Ellen E. Day, is the Director of BrickHouse Ceramic Art Center in Long Island City, NY. She holds an MFA from The City College, CUNY and a BFA from SUNY, New Paltz. The group leader, Jackson Li,
is an internationally recognized Chinese
ceramic artist. He is known for his ability
to introduce travelers to the lifestyles of
the local people, in their workshops and
homes, be they master potters, farmers or
local artisans. Jackson Li goes to great
lengths to introduce us to the unique
cuisines and dishes of the local areas
visited
He is a graduate of the Jingdezhen Ceramic Institute and has been awarded a Master of Fine Arts from Alfred University in the USA. He has exhibited through out the USA, Europe and China.
He is an experienced educator of the ceramic
arts and supporter of international exchange
art programs, filmmaker and writer. He
is a member of the International Academy of
Ceramics as well as an Active member of
the National Council for Education of
Ceramic Arts (USA). Jackson has lectured at
Numerous NCECA Conferences and
universities throughout the US and China.

The cost for this program is $3200 (add $500.00 for single occupancy), and includes all domestic flights and transportation in China along with hotels, meals, workshops, and symposium studio spaces and materials as well as assistants and English and Chinese translators. (Based on current rate of exchange. If the dollar decreases in value, additional costs will be charged.)
Not included are international airfare, overweight baggage, visa and medical travel insurance.
The tour is customized for not more than 18 persons and will require a degree of physical fitness.
